On the 17th, June last a Chinese Detective

was sent to Canton to make enquiries concerning the manu-

facture of spurious Hong-Kong coins (10 & 20 cent pieces).

The Detective ascertained that they were manufactured in Ki

Ha Street, Canton, on the premises of Bannermen Officials.

On the 9th. August last the Netherlands Con-

sul wrote to acquaint this Department that Dutch Guilders

were being coined in Porcelain Street, Amoy.

On the 14th. October last a Chinese Detective

was sent to Macao to enquire for Indian Rupees & Dutch

Guilders, but was unable to obtain any, the Portuguese Author-

ities having shortly before broken up an establishment

that was at the time of raiding manufacturing subsidiary

coins of the Kwangtung Mint.

Chinese Detectives in the employ of the

Hong-Kong Government on the 8th. December last obtained in-

formation of the manufacture at Kowloon City of counter-

feit Hong-Kong coins and on the 10th.of the same montha

party of police with the assistance of the Chinese Authori-

ties broke up a coiner's establishment at that place, but

only Kwangtung dies were seized.

On the 3rd, instant a Chinese Detective was

sent to the Su Hang Village in the Ko Iu District to enquire for shillings, he could however only ascertain that Hongkong

& Kwangtung money was coined there in large quantities, the

manufacture
